Leadership & Adventure

Peter Hillary and Tori James at The Climb Summit, Wales, UK

This was one of the highlights of my speaking career. 🌟

In June 2024 I delivered a joint talk on adventure and leadership with Peter Hillary, son of Sir Edmund Hillary at the Taliesin Arts Centre at Swansea University and in conjunction with the Intensive Learning Academies Wales and the Dragon’s Heart Institute.

It was an absolute honour to speak alongside someone who doesn’t just know the meaning of adventure but the legacy of adventure too.

My favourite moment was Peter’s video clip from the summit of Mount Everest in which he’s talking to his dad, who asks the question “How was the Hillary step?”

Peter’s love of the mountains and the people of Nepal is infectious.

He spoke about the deep friendships that both he and his father have forged through expeditions and the enduring impact of their charitable work.

Adventure is so much more than just time outdoors and for this occasion I spoke about;

🥾 the importance of stepping outside of our comfort zones

🎯 having a clear vision of where you want to go

🤝developing trust before you even set foot on the mountain

🧠 mindset being more important than muscle

🏔️ propell each other to success because together we can achieve remarkable things.

Thank you to Jonathan Gray for leading a fascinating conversation and thank you to the audience for all of the wonderful questions 🙏🏼

Watch a clip from the event here.

Tori is warm, funny and engaging. Her style really draws you in and it’s impossible not to join her on the journey that she describes.
