Honorary Fellowship - University of Wales, Trinity Saint David
What an incredible honour it was to receive an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea earlier this summer.
Walking into that hall, surrounded by graduates about to step into the next chapter of their lives, I couldn't help but reflect on my own journey - from growing up in Pembrokeshire, to standing on the summit of Everest and now, here, being recognised in this way. It's a reminder that you never quite know where a single first step will lead you.
Thank you to Professor Gareth Davies for this nomination. It was a wonderful (and hot!) day, and one made even more meaningful by having my mum there to celebrate with me. She's been there for every step of my journey, long before Everest, and alongside each adventure since - so to share this moment with her was very special.
As I said in my speech, none of my achievements have been solo achievements. Whether it's been a mountain summit, a polar crossing or a sea kayak expedition, I've always been part of a team - and so this award also recognises my teammates, colleagues, friends and family who have been part of those adventures and challenges along the way. Their belief, support and hard work has shaped every single milestone I've reached.
I see this as an invitation to keep exploring, keep learning and keep contributing and I'm looking forward to whatever comes next.

Catrin Stevens – awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her lifetime contribution to Welsh history, education, research and community life.
Gwilym Dyfri Jones – awarded an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of more than three decades of dedicated service to UWTSD, higher education and the Welsh language.
It was a privilege to be recognised alongside such inspiring people, each of whom has contributed so much to Wales in their own field. Diolch yn fawr to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David for this honour.
